First Century

Our intention is to create an environment much like the first century church – a group of men and women in fellowship and hungering after God’s word. My hope is that we will find, together, what the Word tells us in truth. Unfortunately, as I have seen in my experiences, some churches are not preaching the whole word – that is to say they are not talking about sin (and what it does to us), what it means to be a Christian, and what God calls us to do and how to live. I want to unpack all of these things using the Bible as our sole guide. This is an environment of discussion and exploration into the Word. Everyone’s thoughts and insights are welcome. ANY question about the Bible and what is written is on the table and open for discussion. While I will have planned topics, the discussion will be led by the group.

TIME: Sundays, 12:00pm - 1:30pm PLACE: As we are still church planting, we are being faithful to the Lord and meeting in a home setting (similar to a small group, but with a church format). CHILDREN: We are currently building our Children's Ministry, however children are welcome to join the adults during the meeting, or in a supervised playroom. FORMAT: We start at noon with some food – the Lord loves to break bread so we should, too. Then, after an invocation prayer, we’ll get into the Word and look at scripture, analyzing what is said within a historical context and a context of today – that’ll last for maybe 45 minutes. We’ll then end officially with a closing prayer, but leave our doors open for anyone who wants to stay to continue discussion, ask questions, or for prayer.

Everyone is! I would say this is probably best for those who already believe as we will be studying the Bible. But, those who have questions about God and this whole Christian thing are also welcome. However, I want to ensure that our time is spent studying the Word, and not arguing the merits of the existence of God. That said, an Atheist, an Agnostic or anyone else who is seeking a meaningful discussion and have an open mind is welcome – but such discussions may have to wait until the end of the study so we can respect the majority who came for the study itself.

My name is Jerry, and I was fortunate enough to come from a Christian home. Through my last 40+ years, I have been all over the world, seen many things and questioned everything. I have lived both close and far from Him. I understand how our own poor decisions can lead us astray and bring much pain into our lives. I have also (and currently) seen the blessings God has for us when we listen and do our best to stay in His will. I am married to Helena, and have 3 children. I am a retired US Marine, and have an engineering degree with a fair bit of scientific study under my belt. I am big on analytics and view science as the explanation of how God works. I am currently studying at Abilene Christian University (M.Div.) and RZIM Academy (Apologetics). Most of all, I have a heart for God and feel led to give my testimony and share what the Lord has shown me.
